Whether you are interested in Shopify or another platform, I still recommend that you keep reading.

In the previous section, you learned everything you need to create a consistent structure and standardize the content of your store in Shopify before adding the products to the platform. Now, I’ll show you the process in just 10 steps to add products to collections on Shopify.

Step # 1: Go to your store’s admin page in Shopify

When you enter the main page you will see the option to “Add products”. You can press the purple button on the right hand side or go to the menu on the left and press the option “Products”. You will get to a second screen.

Step # 2: Enter the product title and description

Pressing the purple button that says “Add product” will take you to the section that allows you to create a product. You will find a page very similar to a Microsoft Word document, in which you must add the title and description of the product. Here you have the option of formatting the description, such as bold, underlined, bullets and others.

Step # 3: Enter the main product image

In the “Media” section you can add the official photograph of the product. You can choose several or add videos from a file on your computer and the option of “Add image” or you can drag and drop it. To change the position of the photograph. You just have to drag it and place it in the position you want. Add the alternative text (this is the text that describes the image). The first image on the left is the main one.

Step # 4: Price your product

Add the selling price (“Price”) of your product. “Compared Price” (“Compared to”) is a comparison with the original price to serve as a reference for your customer. The cost of the product reveals the profit margin of the product. The final calculation appears on the board. If you are going to charge sales tax, be sure to check the box that indicates it.

Step # 5: Identify your inventory

In the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit, or warehouse reference in Spanish), enter the unique identification number of the product, which you can establish yourself. A formula to create it is choosing nine characters that represent the category + subcategory + number of the product at the end. If you use a bar code, you can include it on the right side of the screen. You can also measure the number of products in “Track Quantity”.

Step # 6: Activate the shipping

If you are sending your product by mail, activate the shipping. Enter the weight. If the product is small, use a dimensional weight calculator to calculate the weight. FedEx, Shipping Easy, and others have this type of calculator.
If you receive products by ship, in the “Custom Information” line you must include the product code. The customs of each of the countries have specific codes. If they arrive by plane or you use dropshipping as an option to sell your products, you should not mark anything. You should also not activate this option if you sell digital products.

Step # 7: Include your product variations

Add the different options of your products, for example, sizes and colors. Separate them with commas. In this section, you can include specific details for each product such as quantity, SKU not barcode, prices and others.

Step # 8: Check how your directory looks on Google

In this section, you can preview how your directory would look in the Google search tool: the title, product description, etc. You can edit this information, if necessary.

Step # 9: Identify the availability of your page

At the top right of the page, you will see where your page is available, Initially, it will only be seen in your online store. Make sure to check this option so that your product will be seen in your store.

Step # 10: Organize your products

Create the different categories of products, include the suppliers and add products to specific collections, such as “Women’s clothing”, “Clearance” and others.

Add the labels (“tags”) to identify other characteristics of the product. This will also allow you to filter it.
At this point, you can preview and duplicate the ad if you want to create another one like it.

If you don’t have a collection, you can create it once you have the product added to your store. In the “Products” section click “Collections” and click the “Create Product Collection” button. Enter the category name, description, and collection type. Save the information and you’re done.

Add the rest of the products with these steps. Once you do, you will be ready to know the elements necessary to design your store.
